Create a collection of laser cut accessories using acrylics, paint pens, and resin
Learning to illustrate your ideas is the key to creating beautiful, laser cut jewelry. Artist and product designer Amanda Woodcock, better known as Modern Science Project, creates jewelry and other decorative objects out of acrylic, clay, and ceramics. Her work, which she shares with over 20K followers on Instagram, combines her passion for both science and art.
In this course, Amanda teaches you how to design and create beautiful jewelry using a laser cutter. Discover how to create one-of-a-kind earrings with a variety of decorative techniques. Are you ready to create your own wearable works of art?
Begin the course by getting to know Amanda. She talks through the journey that started with her studying biomedical engineering and led to her launching her own online shop. Discover how she combines her love of science with her creativity, along with the influences that inspire her work.
Take a look at the tools and materials needed for the course, from cutting materials to glue. Then learn how to plan a collection, starting with a mood board. Use your mood board as inspiration to create sketches of your designs. Explore the core functions of laser cutting and how to vectorize your sketches before preparing your work to send to a supplier.
Time to assemble and decorate your components! Create your first pair of earrings by layering pieces of acrylic. Then use engraved details and paint pens to decorate them. Make a second pair of earrings using UV resin before learning how to brand and package your collection for a memorable customer experience.
Expand into 3D by learning how to create earrings without the need for glue using interlocking components. To finish the course, Amanda talks about how to use the skills you’ve learned to create other products like necklaces, ornaments, vases, and more.
